Woman's lies 'cost £90,000' 02/07/2008

A BRITISH woman spun a ‘web of deceit’ by conning an Altinkum constructor to build her a posh bungalow on a sought-after estate – without ever paying a penny, Voices can reveal.

Terri Wilson, aged 44, originally from Exeter, has been accused of duping builder Kadir Özer with a ‘sob story’ of being pregnant and having been kicked out by her Turkish lover.

Ms Wilson, who lived in Akbük, claimed she was an author and stood to gain £100,000 in commission from her publisher and asked Mr Özer to buy two plots of land at Yeşiltepe and build her a three-bed bungalow while she waited for the money to be sent from the UK.

An unwitting Mr Özer, the owner of Sultan Property, who has an office just outside Didyma Shopping Centre, and one in Akbük, went ahead and bought the land in March this year and began constructing the bungalow.

But with the building work half-way complete, Mr Özer said he had become tired of her delaying tactics of the money ever coming to Turkey and cancelled all business ties with her on May 10.

It is understood that Ms Wilson has since left Akbük and is now somewhere in the Bodrum area.

Mr Özer said he had taken pity on her when she turned up at his Altinkum office and recounted her tale of woe of being pregnant with twins and having been left without a home.

However, she claimed to have £30,000 as a budget and was due to land a £100,000 from her publisher for an historical book she was the author of. She pledged to transfer the balance to him.

He said: “I bought one plot of land which we began to build the bungalow on in April and then she asked for an adjoining plot which she wanted as a garden.

“We went to the lawyers and had translators for which I paid for. We signed contracts and everything was, to me, all in order. She gave me an email address of her publisher but I have since found that to be a sham.

“She came several times to the office asking for changes to the bungalow and then changes to interior design of the place. When I asked about the money, she said “next week, always the next week”.”

He said the bungalow was built and was to have a swimming pool as well in the grounds but his patience ran out when she began, in his opinion, to “lie and lie again” about her financial situation.

He said: “It was all so different when she came to us. She had this plan for a house and I felt bad that she was in such a terrible situation which she described. When I decided not have anything to do with her, I felt used and abused.

“My human kindness towards this woman was completely taken advantage of. It was a complete sham and left me £90,000 out of pocket. The bungalow is half-finished. I have been ripped off.”

He said: “I have decided to speak out about my experience with Terri Wilson to stop her from sucking other people into her sick world of lies. Others may not see through her stories.

“She was manipulating and playing with people’s feelings. It really has broken my heart because I have always been taught to respect people and help them out.

“But no more, thanks to Terri Wilson and her web of deceit.”

Attempts by Voices to contact Ms Wilson proved fruitless at the time of going to press.

No more needles, no more pain! 02/07/2008

MANY people have anxietes and concerns regarding dental treatment. Many of these fears stem from unplesant childhood experiences. The thought of being stuck inside our mouth with a needle is discomforting. For centuries the needle has been the primary way for dentists to inject  the anesthetics necessary for dental procedures.

The pain patients experience from needle injections is caused not by the needle itself but by the rate at which the anesthesia is injected into the gums.

The researchers have found that the pressure with the conventional injection is 100 times bigger then to pump a car wheel although your dentist doing the injection slowly.

Dentistry is developing over the last years and many studies are made to make the dental treatments more safe and  painless.

One of the high technology in dentistry is computer controlled local anesthesia delivery system. It is called magic device. Needle which was the only instrument that is not changed for 150 years now becomes a history with this system.

The flow rate of the local anaesthetic is controlled by a computer. The microprocessor inside the device automatically compensates for different tissue densities.

The anesthetic is delivered at a constant pressure and volume that's typically below the threshold of pain. This means that the anesthesia is guaranteed to be slow and steady and therefore comfortable.

The system makes the anesthesia painless and effective also eliminates the collateral numbning of your face, tongue and lips.

In conclusion, dental health including healthy gums and  teeth can affect your medical status.

Your self confidence can be compromised if you are insecure about your breath and smile. This can lead to serious limitations in both your social and business environments. The new

Technologies in dentistry give us chance to have the treatments with higher comfort and reduced anxiety. Especially the children have better experiences with the dentist with these state of art products. They will open a big window to the world with happy and confident smile easily.

Communities come together 19/06/2008
The group made their first attempt towards an association with a meeting last Saturday (7 June) at the Pine Corner Hotel in Altınkum.

The attendees included the owner of Oracle Travel and Estate Agency İzzet Dönmez, owner of Wonder Homes Estate Agency Murat Yayla, lawyer Ali İhsan Aktimur, Berrin Özdemir, British residents Jim Newlands, Douglas Smitt and the head of mahalle representatives George Soulsby, as well as the contractor of Euro Plaza Apartments Bülent Özdemir, who is the prime mover of the formation.

Expressing that they would complete the legal paperwork within two months and establish the association, Bülent Özdemir explained their aim as familiarizing the British and Turkish communities in Didim and helping in the solution of problems, which rise from misunderstandings.

Özdemir said that the association would also operate as an information bureau and the association lawyers would inform the British residents on the legal issues. Bülent Özdemir spoke, “It is the duty of us all to help these people who have made Didim their second home. Thanks to the foreign residents that Didim has developed greatly. We are responsible for helping our neighbours and listening to their problems. We will do our best to solve the problems.”

Jim Newlands said, “I have been living in Didim for two years now, but I do not know much about my Turkish neighbours. I believe this association is a must.”

The initiators pointed out the fact that the association was not officially named yet and their aim was not only to reach the British residents but all foreigners resident in Didim.

Voices Newspaper will keep you informed of the future developments about the association.

Golf's £20 million Euro carrot for Didim 19/06/2008
FOUR investors have visited Didim this week to investigate the potential of kick-starting the much-vaunted golf course projects.

Two Swedish and two Turkish groups visited the area to look at land off the road on the way to Akbük which has been allocated by government ministers for golf tourism.

The visit on Wednesday (June 11) came two years after Spanish company FADESA investigated the potential of setting up a top quality golf course in Didim, but declined to follow up their interest.

The four investors visited Mayor Mümin Kamacı and the Didim Estate Agencies Association before the association’s deputy chairman Sevim Külekçi took them on a site visit. The investors left Didim the same day.

One investor Fuat Yücel, speaking to Voices Newspaper by phone, said they were pleased with the visit. He added: “We want to be involved in golf tourism with our foreign partners in the Aegean region and we see great potential in Didim.

“We have a planned budget of 20 million Euros for a project, but we still need to investigate other areas in Bodrum and Ayvalık before we make a firm decision.

“If we decide on Didim, we will open the golf course in three years.”
